NKAYI – PROMISING middle-distance runner Siphilisiwe Moyo, an 800 metres athlete from Sagonda Secondary School, is seeking financial support to travel to Harare for the upcoming national team trials.

Moyo, who hails from Nkayi in Matabeleland North, has emerged as one of the province’s standout athletes and is currently ranked among the top performers following the provincial finals.

Her qualification places her in strong contention for selection at the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) trials scheduled for 25–26 April.

Athletes selected at the trials will earn the opportunity to represent Zimbabwe at a series of international competitions, including events in Maputo, Mozambique, as well as meets in the United States and Mauritius—exposure that could prove pivotal in launching Moyo’s athletics career.

However, despite her impressive performances on the track, Moyo faces significant financial hurdles that could prevent her from competing at the national level.

She requires funding for travel to Harare, accommodation, and basic preparations ahead of the trials.

In addition, she does not yet have a passport, an essential requirement should she secures international selection.

“I am appealing for assistance to help me pursue my dream,” Moyo said, expressing determination to represent her country on the global stage.

Her situation reflects a broader challenge faced by many young athletes in rural Zimbabwe, where talent often outpaces access to resources.

Without adequate funding, promising competitors risk missing critical opportunities to progress in their sporting careers.

Beyond travel and documentation, Moyo is also in need of proper athletics equipment, including training and competition kit.

Access to suitable gear is vital not only for performance but also for injury prevention and professional preparation at elite levels.

Local sports observers note that investment in athletes like Moyo can yield long-term benefits for Zimbabwean athletics.

Success at youth and junior levels often feeds into national teams, strengthening the country’s presence in regional and international competitions.

Well-wishers, sponsors and members of the public who wish to support Moyo’s journey can contact Mr G. Gatsheni on +263 78 437 7497 to contribute towards travel, documentation and equipment costs.

With timely support, Moyo has a realistic chance of advancing to the national stage—and potentially representing Zimbabwe internationally—turning raw talent into a story of achievement and national pride.
