CAPE TOWN<\/strong> \u2013 THE 2026 edition of African Mining Week (AMW), officially launched last week, will unite global mining companies, investors, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to explore emerging opportunities across Africa’s minerals sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the world\u2019s leading producer of critical energy-transition metals\u2014including platinum group metals, cobalt, chromium, and manganese\u2014Africa is increasingly shaping global supply chains and attracting investment from the United States, China, and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AMW 2026, themed \u201cMining the Future: Critical Resources, Sustainability, and Community Development,\u201d will highlight Africa\u2019s strategic role in the global critical minerals market. The event will showcase innovative approaches to sustainable mining, foster government-industry collaboration, and discuss strategies for long-term socioeconomic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panels will examine countries such as Zimbabwe, Mali, Namibia, and Malawi, which are advancing local value-addition mandates while managing raw mineral exports to maximize domestic economic impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environmental stewardship and responsible mining practices will be central to discussions, with financiers including the Africa Finance Corporation, World Bank, IFC, and Afreximbank linking funding to ESG performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sessions will explore renewable energy solutions, from Power Purchase Agreements to on-site generation, enhancing energy security, reducing emissions, and improving project bankability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community engagement, skills transfer, gender empowerment, and shared infrastructure will also be emphasized, alongside tax regimes, community-benefit frameworks, and ESG obligations that support inclusive growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AMW 2026 will take place alongside African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies from October 12-16 in Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
