{"id":1212,"date":"2025-11-10T05:13:46","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T05:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/matabeletoday.com\/?p=1212"},"modified":"2025-11-10T05:13:48","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T05:13:48","slug":"zanc-names-adelaide-mhlanga-candidate-for-nkulumane-by-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/matabeletoday.com\/?p=1212","title":{"rendered":"ZANC names Adelaide Mhlanga candidate for Nkulumane by-election"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>by <em>MELUSI MHLANGA<\/em><br><strong>BULAWAYO \u2013 THE Zimbabwe African National Congress (ZANC) has confirmed it will contest the upcoming Nkulumane Constituency by-election, set for 20 December 2025, with Adelaide Mhlanga chosen as the party\u2019s candidate for Parliament.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement follows the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission\u2019s (ZEC) confirmation of the election date, prompting ZANC\u2019s national leadership to convene and endorse Mhlanga\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mhlanga, a longtime party member and prominent community leader, is known for her advocacy on women\u2019s empowerment and grassroots development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ZANC officials say her candidacy signals the party\u2019s renewed focus on inclusive governance and community-centered leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ZANC President Timothy Mncube, said the party was confident Mhlanga would offer \u201cvisionary and accountable\u201d representation for Nkulumane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMs. Mhlanga embodies the values of ZANC \u2014 unity, integrity, and service to the people,\u201d Mncube said. \u201cWe are ready to contest, to serve, and to win for the people of Nkulumane.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nkulumane by-election is viewed as a key test of ZANC\u2019s electoral strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2023 national polls, ZANC failed to secure any parliamentary seats, though it made modest gains in urban constituencies such as Bulawayo South and Cowdray Park, where it improved its vote share against the dominant Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and the ruling ZANU-PF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Political analysts say the by-election will gauge whether ZANC\u2019s grassroots mobilization strategy and push for renewal can translate into actual votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Party structures across Bulawayo have already begun mobilizing supporters for Mhlanga\u2019s campaign.
