VICTORIA Falls has strengthened its position as one of Africa’s leading premium tourism destinations with the opening of a new all-inclusive boutique retreat, adding fresh capacity to the resort town as Zimbabwe enters the peak safari and adventure season.
Albida – Victoria Falls, operated by Africa Albida Tourism as part of the Victoria Falls Safari Collection, officially opened on 1 September, introducing an intimate luxury offering aimed at visitors seeking a more exclusive experience close to one of the world’s most celebrated natural attractions.
The development comes at an important time for Matabeleland North, where tourism remains a major economic driver and Victoria Falls serves as a gateway to the region’s wildlife, adventure and cultural attractions.
The new property forms part of the Victoria Falls Safari Collection, which already includes Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Victoria Falls Safari Club, Victoria Falls Safari Suites, Lokuthula Lodges, Victoria Falls Safari Spa and The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show.
Industry observers say continued investment in high-end accommodation can help Victoria Falls attract visitors with greater spending power while supporting employment and opportunities for local suppliers.
The timing is also favourable for wildlife tourism.
September is regarded as a particularly strong period for safari activities in the Victoria Falls area, while the changing water levels of the Zambezi create opportunities for different adventure experiences.
The new retreat adds to a broader expansion of tourism products around Victoria Falls, where operators are increasingly combining accommodation with conservation, wellness, cultural experiences and adventure.
Zimbabwe’s tourism industry has also recorded broader signs of recovery and growth.
First-quarter tourism receipts rose by 14 percent to US$251 million, while international arrivals increased by 11 percent year-on-year, according to figures reported earlier this year.
For Matabeleland North, the challenge will be converting rising visitor interest into wider economic benefits, particularly for communities, small businesses and tourism suppliers.
With Victoria Falls continuing to attract international attention, the opening of Albida – Victoria Falls signals confidence in the destination’s long-term prospects and adds another premium option to the region’s expanding hospitality offering.
