BULAWAYO – THE 2026 season of the ZIFA Southern Region Division One League promises to be a captivating campaign, with twelve clubs vying for promotion to Zimbabwe’s top-flight Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Based on last season’s performances, several teams have positioned themselves as serious contenders, while others look to consolidate and avoid the drop to the third-tier Division Two.
Talen Vision FC have made headlines ahead of this season by hiring experienced coaches to strengthen their technical department.
Last year, they displayed solid consistency, combining youthful energy with disciplined play. The addition of seasoned coaching staff Mkhuphali Masuku could significantly enhance their tactical organisation, making them one of the most formidable sides in the league.
If the squad adapts well to the new strategies, Talen Vision could realistically challenge for the top spot.
Hwange FC and Bulawayo City also enter the season as strong favourites. Hwange FC’s historic pedigree in Zimbabwean football continues to resonate, with a squad capable of mixing experience with dynamic youth players.
Bulawayo City, meanwhile, demonstrated resilience and technical flair throughout the 2025 season, making them a team to watch for consistent results. Both sides are likely to feature prominently in the title race.
Zimbabwe Saints and Arenel Movers have a reputation for producing entertaining football.
Zimbabwe Saints’ disciplined approach, combined with their ability to control possession, could see them challenge for a top four finish.
Arenel Movers, having dropped from the topflight in previous seasons, will aim to leverage their experience and past exposure to elite competition to assert themselves among the league frontrunners.
Emerging teams like Zebra Revolution and Adachi FC bring unpredictability to the league.
While they may lack the consistency of more established sides, their energy and willingness to play attacking football could result in surprising results against stronger opponents.
Their performances could be key in determining how congested the middle of the table becomes by season’s end.
Ajax Hotspurs, Bosso 90, Victoria Falls City Herentals, and ZPC Hwange will need to combine tactical discipline with effective squad rotation to avoid being embroiled in relegation battles.
The league will demote two teams to Division Two at the end of the season, meaning every point counts and small margins could decide survival.
From the Southern Region, only one team will gain promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, highlighting the competitive nature of the division.
Clubs must not only perform consistently but also manage the psychological and physical demands of a long season. Teams investing in coaching, player development, and strategic planning are likely to gain the edge.
The 2026 Southern Region Division One League is set to provide intense competition, with Talen Vision FC, Hwange FC, and Bulawayo City among the early favourites for promotion.
Emerging sides such as Zebra Revolution and Adachi FC could create surprises, while the threat of relegation ensures every fixture remains significant.
Football fans across the region can expect an exciting season where tactical acumen, squad depth, and resilience will determine who climbs to Zimbabwe’s premier stage and who faces the challenge of survival in Division Two.
