Plumtree welcomes SDA High School

PLUMTREE – THE Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has launched Plumtree Adventist Secondary School, a new high school aimed at expanding educational access and opportunity in this rural border town.
Located next to Mathendele Primary School, the institution is set to welcome its first cohort of Form One learners this month of January as enrolment is already underway.
Local educators and community leaders say the school will help ease pressure on existing institutions and give families more choice.
“This initiative complements government efforts to broaden access to quality education in remote areas,” said an education official at a recent community meeting.
Unlike many schools in the region that follow only the national curriculum, the Adventist model traditionally emphasizes holistic development — combining strong academic grounding with character formation, spiritual life, and practical skills.
SDA schools in Zimbabwe, such as Solusi Adventist High, have pioneered curricula that blend local standards with broader global readiness, equipping students for both tertiary study and entrepreneurship.
Community members say this holistic approach could make Plumtree Adventist Secondary School a game changer locally. “Our children will gain not just certificates, but values, life skills, and the confidence to compete nationally and beyond,” remarked a parent during a stakeholders’ meeting.
In an area where educational infrastructure has lagged, the new school also promises to relieve overcrowding in existing facilities and reduce travel distances for many families who previously sent children to distant towns.
Analysts note that expanding quality schooling options like this aligns with national priorities to improve rural education outcomes.
With construction near completion and enrollment underway, Plumtree Adventist Secondary School is poised to open its doors at the start of the 2026 school year, marking a milestone in community development and educational opportunity.
