Matabeleland youth get free digital skills boost

GWANDA — YOUNG people across Matabeleland are set to benefit immensely from a groundbreaking initiative by Magara AI, a Harare-based artificial intelligence (AI) company that is offering a fully funded, internationally certified Computer Literacy and Digital Skills Mentorship Programme.
The opportunity, which launches in January 2026, aims to equip youths with modern digital competencies that are increasingly essential in today’s global economy.
The programme arrives at a crucial moment. Across Africa, countries that have embraced AI and digital training are already seeing remarkable progress, with youths gaining employment in administrative work, data management, Microsoft Office applications, and remote virtual assistance services.
Zimbabwean youths, particularly those from Matabeleland, have historically faced barriers to accessing such opportunities — a gap Magara AI says it is determined to close.
Speaking to Matabele Today, Magara AI chief executive officer Peaceful Ngara said empowering unemployed youths from Matabeleland was both a professional mission and a personal commitment.
Raised by a single mother from Bulawayo, Ngara said he is driven by her vision of equal access to education and technology for both Ndebele and Shona communities.
“Magara AI is offering a fully funded, internationally certified Computer Literacy and Digital Skills Mentorship Programme — completely free of charge — exclusively for residents of Matabeleland in 2026,” Ngara said.
He emphasized that the region has endured decades of limited educational and economic opportunities, resulting in low representation in fields such as software engineering and technology.
Magara AI, recently nominated by Techbehemoths Belgium for its innovation in AI and youth support, will offer intensive training in essential digital skills.
These include professional data entry, graphic design fundamentals, hands-on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, and an introduction to artificial intelligence.
Participants will also learn practical applications of tools like ChatGPT and how AI can streamline everyday work.
Ngara stressed that the programme is “100% free” for eligible applicants aged 18 to 45.
Beyond the immediate benefits, the initiative underscores a broader global shift: AI literacy is no longer optional.
As industries adopt automation, data-driven decision-making, and remote digital services, individuals with AI and computer skills gain access to higher-paying jobs, entrepreneurial opportunities, and global markets.
Countries investing in digital education are positioning their youth for long-term economic resilience — a vision Magara AI hopes to bring to Matabeleland.
